Highlights of the Week

TUE 24 MAR: Mass of TUES After I Passion Sunday, with commemoration of St. Gabriel Archangel, who was messenger to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Annunciation that declared “full of grace...and blessed among women.” At Matins the Archangel says, “I am Gabriel, who stands in God‟s presence, and I have been sent to announce this good tidings to thee.” The angel explained Mary would conceive by the Holy Ghost and bear a Son whom she should name Jesus, Savior. Mary exclaimed: “Behold the handmaiden of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to thy word.” WED, 25 MAR: Wonderful I class Feast of the Annunciation of the BVM. St. Anselm said: “The Eternal Father‟s Son and the Virgin‟s Son are one and the same.” THURS, 26 MAR: Mass of THURS After I Passion Sunday. FRI, 27 MAR: FRI After I Passion SUN. Great Feast of the Seven Dolors of the BVM. Commemoration of feria and St. John Damascene of Damascus, who died in 749. The Saint fought against the Iconoclasts who opposed veneration of statues and pictures of Our Lord and the Saints. (One wonders whether the Moslems have the same Iconoclastic belief). SAT, 28 MAR: Mass of SABB After I Passion Sunday, with commemoration of St. John Capistrano, a Franciscan, delegated by Pope Callistus III to organize a Crusade against Moslem invaders, who having taken Constantinople, sought to invade Western Europe through Belgrade, go on to Rome, and take over the Vatican and turn it into a Mosque. The Saint gathered a Christian Army, defeated the Moslems, saved the Vatican and Western Europe from Moslem conquest

Today, and throughout the Passiontide, the Psalm Judica me and Gloria Patri after the Introit and Psalm at Lavabo are omitted.
