Highlights of the Week
MON, 4 MAY: St. Monica, Widow. Feast honors conversion of St. Augustine due to the prayers of his Mother who passed away in 387. TUES, 5 MAY: Saint Pius V is celebrated in the Holy Mass today. A Dominican, St. Pius V reformed the Missal and Breviary, instituted the Feast of Our Lady of Victories, which later became the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary, following the victory of Christianity over the Turks at Lepanto. His famous encyclical, Quo Primum, made the reformed Tridentine Mass the Mass of Catholicism, a bulwark against heresy and the Protestant Reformation. THURS, 7 MAY: FIRST THURS: Feast of St. Stanislaus of XI Century Poland, martyred by the evil King of Poland, Boleslaus II, after criticism of his immoral and tyrannical regime. He is Patron Saint of Poland. FRI, 8 MAY: Mass of the Apparition of St. Michael the Archangel might be celebrated using the older edition of the Missal. We need the power of this great Archangel to turn back the forces of evil which threaten to engulf us. SAT, 9 MAY: St. Gregory Nazianzen of the IV Century was a great friend of St. Basil the Great and, as Archbishop of Constantinople, reconverted the faithful from the Arian Heresy.
St. Gregory the Great said Paschaltide was joyful for the angels as the Resurrection opened Heaven thereby making up the losses of angels who followed Satan to hell rather than follow God‟s Will.
Alleluia, Alleluia. The Lord hath sent redemption to His people. Alleluia. It behooved Christ to suffer these things...Alleluia.
