Highlights of the Week

Today: St. Antoninu, a Dominican, Archbishop of Florence, of the XV Century, known as Antoninus of good counsel. Commemorated SS Gordian and Epimachus, martyred in Rome on the Via Latina.

THIS WEEK:

MON, 11 MAY: Rogation Day. SS Philip and James Apostles celebrating the placement of their relics at Church of the Holy Apostles in Rome. The former was crucified at Herapolis, while James refused the demand of the High Priest in Jerusalem to repudiate the Lord and was thrown down from the terrace of the Temple and then clubbed to death.

TUES, 12 MAY: Rogation Day. St. Nereus, Achilleus, Domitilla, and Pancras. Nereus and Achilleus were Roman officers beheaded for the Faith under Diocletian. Pancras was a 14 year old boy, beheaded for refusal to offer incense to the Roman gods. If there is a procession, Rogation Mass with commemoration of the Saints may be celebrated if a procession is made.

WED, 13 MAY: Rogation Day: Vigil of the Ascension: Mass of the Vigil with commemoration of St. Robert Bellarmine. XVI Century Jesuit whose writings against Protestantism and catechism were very effective in combating the errors of Protestants.

THURS, 14 MAY: Feast of Ascension. HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. St. Boniface is not commemorated. The Saint was murdered at Tarsus on this day in 307. Celebrated in traditional churches and chapels, a few US Dioceses, honoring the triumphant return of Our Lord to Heaven, His Eternal Priesthood and the promise of Heaven for his people. After the Gospel, the Paschal Candle is extinguished as a sign Our Lord has ascended into Heaven. Following Ascension, we ought now prepare ourselves by prayer and contemplation to the coming of the Holy Ghost.

FRI, 15 MAY: St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in XVIII Century France. P
