Highlights of the Week

MON, 15 JUN: SS Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia. St. Vitus was son of a Sicilian nobleman who was baptized against his father's wishes, was martyred with SS Modestus and Crescentia, Christian servants in his household, in 303. St. Vitus is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers invoked in cases of epilepsy. TUES, 16 JUN: THURS, 18 JUN: St. Ephrem, known as the Harp of the Holy Ghost in the IV Century in Syria.
He left behind a significant legacy of literature and was highly devoted to Our Lady. Commemorated are Ss. Mark and Marcellian, brothers, martyred at Rome under Diocletian in about 304. FRI, 19 JUN: St. Juliana Falconieri, who founded the Servite sisters devoted to veneration of the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. In 1341, while dying at Florence, Italy, unable to receive Communion, the Saint requested the Host be placed on her breast, which due to a miracle, entered her body. SS Gervase and Protase, brothers, were martyred at Milan in the II Century. Discovered by St. Ambrose in 386, they repose in the crypt, with the Saint, in Milan. SAT, 20 JUN: Commemoration of St. Silverius, of the VI Century, exiled by Empress Theodora who demanded he support a heretic at Constantinople, who died of ill treatment. His body now lies in the Vatican.

Jesu, Shepherd, Bread indeed, Thou take pity on our need. Thou Thy flock in safety feed. Thou protect us, Thou us lead to the land of heavenly grace.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, hail! Savior, Mother, Friend at death! When our feeble voices fail. Bless at last our dying breath. In our soul, Christ's saving grace, On our breast, the Triple sign; Bring us to Him, face to face; In His Peace our death enshrine. Amen.
