Highlights of the Week
MON, 29 JUN: Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Apostles, whose names are inscribed in the Canon. A slight bow is made to the Crucifix by the priest at mention of their names. TUES, 30 JUN: Commemoration of St. Paul Apostle in honor of St. Paul's conversion of pagans in the Greek World and throughout the Roman Empire. St. Peter is commemorated in the Mass. MONTH OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD BEGINS: WED, 1 JUL: Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. What a wonderful occasion to pray for priests and bathe the prayers for priests in His Most Precious Blood. In 1849 in commemoration of the victory of the French forces over the Republicans at Rome, the Feast was extended to the entire Church and placed upon the I Sunday of JUL. In the reforms of Pope St. Pius X the Feast Day was placed on 1 JUL. The month of JUL is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood. THURS, 2 JUL: II cl. Feast of the Visitation falls, commemorating the visit of Mary to her cousin, Elizabeth, whereupon St. John the Baptist leapt in his Mother's womb. SS Processus and Martinian are commemorated in the Mass. Their bodies are enshrined in a side chapel at the Vatican. They were jailers, converted at the Mamertine Prison, by SS Peter and Paul who then suffered martyrdom FRI 3 JUL: commemoration of St. Irenaeus, fearless denouncer of Gnostic heresy, who emphasized Catholic Doctrine as taught by Christ and the Apostles at the end of the II Century. Feast was formerly 28 JUN. Saint Irenaeus was Bishop of Lyons in Gaul beginning in 177 and martyred, according to St. Jerome, in about 202.
