THIS WEEKKK: Today is feast day of St. Anthony Maria Zaccharia who founded the Barnabites in the XVI Century. This Order took St. Paul as model and protector. Pope Leo XIII canonized St. Anthony in 1897. MON, 6 JUL: No Feast falls today on the Universal Calendar. A Festal Mass, with Gloria, of St. Maria Goretti, a model for youth and purity, who died rather than yield to impurity, may be celebrated. St. Maria Goretti was only 12 years old when she was martyred.TUES, 7 JUL: Bishops and Confessors, SS Cyril and Methodius, brothers born in Thessalonica in the IX Century, are honored in the Mass today. The Saints converted the Slavs and translated the Holy Scriptures into their language. Pope Leo XIII, attempting to promote unity with the schismatic Eastern Churches, placed the Saints on the universal calendar. WED, 8 JUL: The Portuguese Saint, St. Elizabeth, Queen and Widow, was a model wife to King Denis of Portugal. After his death, she became a model widow and died in 1336. Pope Urban VIII canonized her in the XVII Century. There is no Feast day on THURS, 9 JULSAT, 11 JUL: Preferred Mass is that of the SABB of the BVM with commemoration of St. Pius I Pp.Holy Father from 141 to 155, a fighter against the Gnostic heresy.
