Highlights of the Week
Today is Feast of St. John Gualbert Abbot of the X Century who forgave the murderer of his brother, became a monk, founded in Tuscany a new order using the Rule of St. Benedict. Commemoration of SS Nabor and Felix, martyred in Milan under Diocletian in 305. MON, 13 JUL: No Feast falls today, but former Feast of St. Anacletus, who ruled the Church from 79 to 90, second successor to St. Peter, may be said. TUES, 14 JUL: St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan from XIII Century Tuscany, friend of St. Thomas Aquinas, named the Seraphic Doctor due to his learning and clarity of doctrine. WED, 15 JUL: St. Henry ., Holy Roman Emperor in the XI Century, miraculously cured at Monte Casino through intercession of St. Benedict. The Emperor practiced heroic virtue the rest of his life and left his monies to Bamberg Cathedral in 1024. THURS, 16 JUL: Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel who appeared to St. Simon Stock, General of the Carmelite Order in 1251, while on this day, promised special blessings for those who wear the Scapular. FRI, 17 JUL: St. Alexis, of the IV Century, is honored in the Mass who gave up his inheritance, later worked in disguise in the house of his Father, living under the dwelling. SAT, 18 JUL: Founder of the Camillians, dedicated to service of the sick, St. Camillus de Lellis, is honored in the Litany of the Dying. He is Patron of Hospitals and the Sick and special protector of nursing Sisters. St. Simphorosa and her seven sons are commemorated in the Mass and are buried on the Via Tiburtina a few miles from Rome.
The chalice of benediction which we bless,
is it not the communion of the Blood of Christ?
And the bread which we break,
is it not the partaking of the Body of the Lord?
