Highlights of the Week
MON, 27 JUL: St. Pantaleon M., a doctor, was martyred at Nicomedia in about 303 during the reign of Diocletian. He is regarded in the Eastern Church as one of the great martyrs, is Patron of Physicians, with SS Luke, SS Cosmas and Damian. In cases of tuberculosis, he is especially invoked, is one of the XIV Holy Helpers. TUES, 28 JUL: SS Nazarius and Celsus Mm., Victor I Pp. M., and Innocent I Pp. Tomb of SS Nazarius and Celsus were found by St. Ambrose in 395, having died for the Faith in the I Century. Pope from 189 to 198, St. Victor regulated the date for celebration of Easter throughout the Church. St. Innocent I was one of the greatest early Popes and was admired by St. Augustine and St. Jerome who were contemporaries. WED, 29 JUL: Sister of St. Mary Magdalen, St. Martha lived at Bethany, was beloved by Jesus, along with her sister, Mary, and brother, Lazarus. St. Felix, Simplicius, Faustinus and Beatrice Mm. are commemorated in the Holy Mass. All were martyred during the reign of Diocletian. THURS, 30 JUL: The Persians, SS Abdon and Sennen Mm., came to Rome and were martyred in about 250 during the reign of Decius. FRI, 31 JUL: Great Jesuit Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola C., who started out as a soldier, was wounded severely, ending his military career, and ended up forming what became the largest religious group with 26 canonized Saints, a couple hundred beatified.
